The Jockey Club reminds owners and breeders that a valid attempt to name foals of 2002 must be made by Feb. 1, 2004 to avoid a $50 late fee and, as an aid in selecting a desired name, The Jockey Club has once again published on the Registry’s web site a list of 37,990 names released from active use on Jan. 1, 2004.
A majority of the released names are those of horses over 10 years old that have not raced or been bred during the preceding five years.
Owners and breeders are also encouraged to consult the Online Names Book at any time to check the availability of potential names.
The list of recently released names and the Online Names Book are accessible through the Registry’s home page at www.registry.jockeyclub.com.
Interactive RegistrationTM (IR) is the quickest and easiest way to submit name selections and is available at no charge through the Registry’s web site. Nearly 17,000 owners and breeders utilize IR to complete the requirements for foal registration and naming. Those who name their Thoroughbreds through IR receive their first choice approximately 75 percent of the time.
“It has never been easier to name a Thoroughbred,” said Matt Iuliano, The Jockey Club’s vice president of registration services. “Both the Online Names Book and list of recently released names are updated daily as names are claimed so that users are always looking at the most current information.”
Those preferring to submit their name selections by mail should do so by Feb. 1, 2004 to The Jockey Club, 821 Corporate Drive, Lexington, KY 40503-2794. Additional information is available by contacting The Jockey Club at (859) 224-2700 or (800) 444-8521.
