In 2004, Intervet introduced Safe-Guard® (fenbendazole) Equi-bits™ horse
dewormer. Presented in a handy foil pouch, Equi-Bits single dose treatment makes
rotational deworming a breeze. Safe-Guard Equi-bits contains fenbendazole in an alfalfa-based pellet, allowing the
horse owner to feed and to deworm in one single step. It is a unique combination of
animal health and nutritional science. Armed with fenbendazole, the proven active
ingredient of all well-known Safe-Guard products, Equi-bits pellets control large
strongyles, small strongyles, pinworms and ascarids.
The Equi-bits 1.25 lb re-sealable foil pouch treats a 1,250 lb (body weight) horse in one meal, its application is easy; Equi-bits pellets replace an equivalent weight of
daily ration. In a palatability study, Equi-bits met an overwhelming acceptance
suggesting that the product is very palatable.
The addition of Equi-bits to the Safe-Guard family of Equine Dewormers is in line
with Intervet’s strategy of providing multi-presentations to meet horse owners’
various needs. In fact Safe-Guard’s highly stable compound is versatile enough to
maintain efficacy whether used in top-dress (Safe-Guard Equine Granules), pellets
(Equi-bits) or paste (Safe-Guard Paste).
