The American Quarter Horse Association is helping to promote a healthier lifestyle across the United States through Great Outdoors Month. President Bush issued an official proclamation designating the month of June as Great Outdoors Month. Great Outdoors Month was organized in an effort to increase participation in outdoor recreation that benefits individuals, families and communities. The Great Outdoors Month Coalition was created to coordinate both existing and new celebrations of the various recreational activities across the nation.
As a Coalition partner, AQHA offers its members numerous ways to enjoy America from the back of an American Quarter Horse, including AQHA’s Ride Program. The Ride Program is a series of group trail rides held at various scenic locations across America. In June, there are 13 Ride dates scheduled for Kentucky, Indiana, Virginia, New Jersey, Colorado, Minnesota, Wyoming, North Dakota and Ohio. The Ride program utilizes America’s horseback riding trails.
“Great Outdoors Month emphasizes the wonderful opportunities available to Americans to get outside and enjoy our country and embrace a healthier lifestyle,” said Stephanie McCommon, AQHA Manager of Membership Services. “Enjoying America¹s trail system through AQHA is one of those opportunities.”
From trail riding to showing, working cattle to racing, the American Quarter Horse offers the perfect vehicle for enjoying Great Outdoors Month. American Quarter Horses foster an active lifestyle, promoting better health and wellness. One of Great Outdoors Month’s purposes is to encourage greater activity and health awareness. Horseback riding is an excellent way to reduce stress, build strength, enhance balance and improve cardiovascular health.
There are approximately 60 organizations that are partners in the Great Outdoors Month Coalition. Along with AQHA, The Walt Disney Company, AAA, Good Sam Club and Leave No Trace Inc., among others, all promote Great Outdoors Month through events and marketing efforts.
