Platinum Performance Releases Second In Series of Educational CD-ROMs

Press Release

Platinum Performance, Inc. has completed production of its second educational CD-ROM called “The Role of Anti-Oxidants and Free Radicals in Equine Health.” Created in conjunction with the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine and in partnership with the American Association of Equine Practitioners, this complimentary CD-ROM provides new information about the role of anti-oxidants in the health and performance of the horse.

As depicted in this CD-ROM, free radicals are chemicals produced in the horse’s body either as the result of normal metabolic processes, such as those used by cells to convert oxygen into energy, or in response to air pollutants, ultraviolet light, radiation, and gases, such as ozone and the ingestion of rancid or oxidized fats. These free radicals likely play a key role in the development of equine illnesses as well as conditions such as delayed recovery after exercise, joint disease and lameness, colic, laminitis, shipping stress and chronic inflammation.

The job of the anti-oxidants is to prevent the damaging effects of free radicals within the body. Because one anti-oxidant can quench only one free radical, a continual supply of anti-oxidants is needed by the horse on a daily basis.

Utilizing the same cutting edge 3-D animation techniques used in making movies such as Shrek and The Incredibles, this CD-ROM allows participants to view the intricate mechanics of equine metabolism in a way never before possible. Colorful and technically accurate illustrations lead the viewer through the processes in which free radicals are produced and how they can accumulate and damage not only muscle cells and joints but other important organs such as the heart, liver, and kidney.

This CD-ROM is available free of charge to equine practitioners, media representatives and horse industry participants as part of Platinum’s on-going educational development program. Veterinarians and media outlets are welcome to offer the details of the free CD-ROM program to their clients and readers in an effort to better educate them about joint inflammation and disease.

“We believe that factual, relevant and timely information for the horse owner, trainer and breeder is essential to promoting the long-term health and well-being of horses,” explains Mark Herthel, Vice President of Platinum Performance, Inc.

Those interested in receiving a complimentary copy of this new CD-ROM can click here, or you can request a copy directly from a Platinum Performance Team Member at 1-800-553-2400 (Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm PST).
