Wyoming Mom Produces Cowboy Videos for Kids
LARAMIE, WY – Wyoming-based mom Bethany Zill, 33, recently produced a 2-part video series for kids called "All About Cowboys." Zill was inspired by her two sons, Sterling, 6, and Grant, 3, to produce a wholesome, authentic video about cowboys that was suitable for the entire family.
"I had no experience producing a video," admits Zill, "But I knew what my kids liked and knew what I liked them to watch. I also have a strong interest in the West and wanted to share part of my own background and culture with other families."
To get the video made, Zill picked up the telephone and called the company that produced her sons' favorite train video, "I Love Toy Trains." The president of TM Books and Video responded positively to her idea about a real-life cowboy video for kids. He sent a video crew to Laramie, Wyoming to film entirely on location in 2003.
"I wanted to convey the cowboy way of life in an authentic, entertaining way," said Zill. "When I couldn't find an appropriate video on the shelves, I decided to go for it and make one myself."
"We shot so much great footage and came up with so many good stories that we couldn't fit them all into one video," said Tom McComas, president of TM Books and Video. Part One was released in December 2003 and Part Two has been released this month. A DVD will be released in February 2004.
"All About Cowboys" features original music by Bethany Zill with highlights including scenes from Cheyenne Frontier Days "The Daddy of 'em All" Rodeo, tricks from a world-class roper Max Reynolds; commentary by cowboy and Old West expert Rattlesnake Jake; and the story of a seven-year old cowboy and his pony Mabel.
Parts One and Two of "All About Cowboys For Kids" video series are available at local stores and online for $12.95 each. The videos were produced by Tom McComas and Bethany Zill and are distributed by TM Books and Video. More information can be obtained at http://www.allaboutcowboys.com.
