The Colorado Horse Park’s Grand Prix of Denver on July 22 will serve as a benefit for Ariana Samaras and her family. Ariana is a four year old who was diagnosed with a brain stem glioma, an inoperable brain tumor. The Grand Prix of Denver is a show jumping competition that is the final leg of the Colorado Horse Park Triple Crown. Horses and riders have come from around the region as well as New Zealand, Mexico and Canada to vie for more than $225,000 in prize money and awards.
“Everyone has been so kind to us here in Denver,” said April Samaras, Ariana’s mother. The family moved here from North Carolina so Ariana could receive treatments. Ariana has endured surgery, a shunt insertion to relieve the pressure of the fluid against her brain, steroids that make her noticeably uptight from time to time and hungry all the time, and daily radiation treatments to reduce the size of the tumor.
Of course these therapies costs a lot of money. The equity in the home has been allocated; the furniture and appliances have been auctioned. Keeping the insurance and income coming in has been a real hardship on the family, but Ariana’s parents will do anything to afford the treatments for their cherished little girl. Neither parent is living in the home they made together because everything has been sold to keep the treatments coming.
The radiation treatments have made Ariana more comfortable recently. April continued, “Ariana gets up happy and strong everyday, which gives us the strength to get through every day.”
You can meet Ariana and her family during the Grand Prix of Denver on July 22 at the Colorado Horse Park in Parker. Opening Ceremonies begin at 4:30 with the first horse on course at 5:30. Food and equestrian-themed shopping are available on the grounds. General admission tickets are $10 adults, $5 kids. VIP seats are $80. Free parking. $1 for each ticket sold for the Grand Prix of Denver will be given to the Ariana Samaras’ fund. In addition, spectators can contribute additional donations throughout the event. 100% of donations go directly to the Medical Fund of Ariana Samaras.
Or send a check, made payable to Ariana Samaras (in the memo line of the check write Beneficiary). Checks can be mailed directly to Ariana's bank account as follows:
