123rd National Horse Show and Family Festival Offers Equestrian Experiences Outside of Competition
Phelps Media Group, Inc. International
The 123rd National Horse Show and Family Festival will be held at the Palm Beach Polo Equestrian Club in Wellington, FL, from November 29 through December 3, 2006. An equestrian tradition since 1883, this event showcases top hunter, jumper, and dressage competitors at their highest levels. Along with some of the nation’s top horses and riders, this competition introduces rare and unusual breeds in their special horse exhibitions.
On Friday, December 1, one of the most appealing exhibitions to equestrian lovers at the National Horse Show will begin. During the course change of the “Jumping Under the Stars” evening competition, Shaana Pritchard-Risley and the Frieze Frame Friesians will perform.
The Friesians consist of a freestyle dressage team of up to ten beautiful black Friesian stallions, which will perform quadrille tests in costume for their fifth year at the National Horse Show. They include Friesians from Dutch, German, and American registries, and represent some of the best Friesian stallions in the country.
Frieze Frame Friesians will also have demonstrations on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the Grand Hunter Ring and on Sunday during the course change of the final phase of the Rolex/USEF National Show Jumping Championship.
On Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Children’s Fair, the National Horse Show hosts wonderful miniature horse demonstrations. Pony rides will also be available. In addition to pony rides at the Children’s Fair, more family fun can be found with the Jurassic Bounce House, Pirate Adventure Land Slide, Kiddie Carousel, Saber Tooth Dual Slide, Wild One Obstacle Course, Bob’s petting zoo, Honey Bee face painter, and Dippy Debbie balloon artist.
On Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the National Horse Show hosts the Wellington Business Expo. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., visitors can feast at the Taste of Wellington, where ten local restaurants will offer free samplings of food. The restaurants include: California Pizza Kitchen, Cold Stones Ice Cream, CR Chicks, Good to Go, Romano’s Macaroni Grille, SandyJames Catering, Seville, Shingo’s, SOHO Café, and Yucatan Mexican Grille.
Beginning at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, the Wellington Show Stables Drill Team will put on a special routine for spectators. Performing in the Grand Hunter Ring, the group will consist of students from the riding school who will perform on borrowed school horses and are thrilled to be at the National Horse Show.
