Horse Tack Review

July is the time to celebrate the red, white and blue and Breyer® Animal Creations®, makers of the world’s finest model horses, is doing just that and more at BreyerFest Stars & Stripes! From champion American Saddlebreds to popular Paint horses and Morgans, Breyer is recognizing the breeds of horses that have influenced the heritage of the nation. Join the fun at BreyerFest® Stars & Stripes, a three-day extravaganza featuring a stellar line-up of made-in-America horse breeds and entertainment celebrating the model horses and the real-life horse heroes that inspired them, at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky from July 20-22, 2007.

BreyerFest is truly unique among horse fairs and festivals, combining the real-horse world with the model-horse-hobby world, made up of the people who love real horses but also collect, show and customize model horses. BreyerFest is the one national, annual gathering of fans of the model horse hobby that provides a wrap-around horse experience for thousands of children and parents, including three days of live horse demonstrations and lots of crafts and social activities.

Headlining BreyerFest’s equine entertainment is renowned trainer Lynn Palm and her American Paint Horse Rugged Painted Lark, a son of two-time AQHA Super Horse Rugged Lark, honored as a Breyer model in 1989. This celebration model is a special edition given to every three-day ticket holder.

Draft horses will be part of the entertainment when the nationally known troupe Big Horse Entertainment brings their unique acrobatic equine act, combining complex acrobatics and vaulting skills—all done on the backs of cantering draft horses. Performers Erik Martonovich and Alethea Shelton have traveled around the U.S. with the acclaimed multi-media equestrian show Cavalia as well as many other equestrian shows.

Other special guests at BreyerFest will include the barrel racing phenomenon Hot Shot, the top money-earning barrel racer of the last decade. BreyerFest’s equine demonstrations will include a fabulous Wild West Show with Buffalo Bill and Annie Oakley, as well as America’s favorite miniature horses, the annual drill team exhibition, trick riders, and much more!

Author Ellen Feld will bring Blackjack, the hero of her young-adult equestrian novel, Blackjack: Dreaming of a Morgan Horse, for a personal appearance and offer a daily reading in the Craft Activity Center. The Breyer Craft Activity Center hosted by the Explorium of Lexington, the children’s museum of Lexington and a BreyerFest partner, will offer opportunities to paint Breyer Stablemates® models, watch live sculpting demonstrations, listen to stories, and do other fun horse crafts. There’s a section for adults too!

Other activities include pony rides, a petting zoo, dog agility performances, autograph sessions with guest horses and speakers, and free seminars. Three-day ticket holders can attend the pre-auction party for the Live Benefit Auction of Breyer test models and the silent auction and two benefit raffles that will raise funds for several charities: beneficiaries include the Morris Animal Foundation; North American Association for Riding for the Handicapped (NARHA); the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS); and a variety of local Kentucky-based non-profits. Register now for the Open or Youth and Children model horse shows, both qualifiers for the North American Nationals Model Horse Championships.

For Breyer shoppers, the Trade Fair and Breyer Store are the only places to find vintage Breyer models, the newest Breyer gear, equine collectibles and of course, special models available only at BreyerFest.

Activities are also held at the Holiday Inn North, BreyerFest’s host hotel, including the Artisans’ Gallery featuring top equine artists and sculptors and the annual Swap Meet, the hot spot for buying, selling and swapping model horses.

Ticket prices and benefits vary depending on ticket purchased. Pre-registration strongly encouraged.
