Horse Rescue

Following Pure Thoughts Horse Rescue's record-breaking rescue of 163 horses from a horse auction in Ohio last month, the horse community in Wellington, FL - from international polo players to Olympic show jumpers and dressage riders to trail riders and horse care professionals - has rallied to form a unified effort to say we will not tolerate the abuse and torture of horses.

You can help!

Pure Thoughts has developed a sponsorship program specific to last month's "Miracle Save." Individuals and organizations may sponsor one of the rescue horses for a donation of $500. In return, you'll feel great about having joined our efforts. You'll also receive a sponsorship package including a bottle of premium wine with a picture of your sponsored horse on the label. You will also receive a keepsake horseshoe (one actually pulled from the "Miracle Save" group, decorated by a Florida artist, along with a framed picture and a description of your special horse. You will also have the option of becoming a "guardian" to your sponsored horse so you may receive updates on the horse's well-being throughout his or her life.

This program is critical to our ability to vet, feed, board and care for these precious horses. What better gift to give yourself or your friends and family - the gift of life, and the gift of love. Your donation or sponsorship represents the gift of a second chance at life and happiness for 163 horses who otherwise would have been broken and killed. Thanks to the help of people like you who are reading this, it can and will happen for these beautiful horses.

A normal sale day at the Sugarcreek auction house starts with horses off-loaded by their owners, tagged for auction, then crammed into pens with other horses, no matter their size, age or gender. The horses - from old draft horses to tiny newborn foals - are confused and scared.

After a sad parade of horses for sale, most are bought by meat buyers the horror begins. The horses crammed back into pens soon to be loaded onto cramped trailers. Their shoes are pulled for the last time. They will never again feel the touch of a gentle hand or feel the warm sun on their backs as they graze. Instead, they are loaded and driven to Canada or Mexico where they will endure a painful death. This is an ordinary day at Sugarcreek.

May 23 was not an ordinary day. For one day, all the horses there were safe. Pure Thoughts had planned its second annual Memorial Day save with donations from supporters including Wellington residents Victoria McCullough and Richard Schecter, The Fans of Barbaro, and many other individuals. They planned to save 25 horses with the nearly $30,000 raised for the mission. "I couldn't bear to 'play God,' and choose who would live or die" said McCullough, "so I decided that all the drafts on that day would be safe, all the ponies, all the off-the-track thoroughbreds and all the yearlings and the babies - all the horses there. No one will go to slaughter."

Today, the horses have started their new life, which includes care, love and the freedom to graze and enjoy the Florida sunshine. Saving, rehabilitating, and getting these horses adopted out is an enormous yet fulfilling mission. "With the help of so many wonderfully knowledgeable people in the Wellington area and worldwide the task is progressing with success," said Jennifer Swanson, co-founder of Pure Thoughts. "In addition to the physical and emotional undertaking, this rescue mission is also an enormous financial responsibility. Before it's over the costs for this rescue mission will be well over $225,000."

Please consider a sponsorship or sending a tax-deductible contribution to help these horses begin their new lives. You can mail your sponsorship donation to Pure Thoughts Inc. "Sponsor a Miracle Save Horse" 19181 Capet Creek Ct, Loxahatchee, Florida 33470 or you can visit the website at www.PTHR.org. You may also contact Jennifer at 561-254-0415.

Pure Thoughts is an all volunteer 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to saving the lives of horses, yearlings and foals that were bound for the foreign owned slaughterhouses in our country. These horses would have been brutally tortured and slaughtered so that they could be served as a delicacy in foreign countries. In addition we also rescue horses from starvation, abuse and neglect, any horse in need. We have saved over 975 innocent equines and as long as these cruel acts continue we will continue to fight for the horses. We cannot do this alone...we need your help!! Please help us and others save these beautiful animals and please remember in your thoughts the ones we were unable to reach.
