Kelly Kaminski to Write Column for Horseback Magazine
Two time World Barrel Racing Champion Kelly Kaminski joins Horseback Magazine’s team of award winning columnists beginning with our November issue. “We are so honored to have this rodeo legend join our already stellar line-up of writers,” said Horseback Editor Steven Long. “She brings a lot to the table. She is not only a shining example of the best rodeo has to offer, but she is a skilled writer as well. It’s not every rodeo star who taught English, after all.”
Kaminski has qualified for the National Finals Rodeo five times, and plans to do so again.
“This is wonderful,” said PRCA Hall of Fame announcer Bob Tallman. “She’s a beautiful mother, a beautiful person, and a beautiful athlete. And now she joins a beautiful magazine. It’s a wonderful combination.”
Besides competing in the rodeo arena with plans for another run at the title, Kelly conducts a series of “Dream Big and Believe” seminars from coast to coast.
Kelly Kaminski was first introduced to the sport which would come to dominate her life at the Houston rodeo in the Astrodome as a child. As an adult, she came back to win there.
Her horse Rocky (Rockem Sockem Go) is a rodeo legend in his own right. Kaminski raised and trained him from birth. Retired now because of arthritis, Rocky won the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association “Horse With Most Heart” award three times.
Rodeo has its critics, but one thing is for sure, rodeo people love their animals. Recently Kaminski wrote of one activist saying, “He'll never know what it like to stand at the NFR and watch the tears of the cowboys when an animal has gotten hurt or when they (the animal stars) are glorified and have the arena to themselves with a spotlight when a great one is retired. He'll never know what it's like to actually love and have a relationship with an equine partner, or feel the pain of having to retire him because he can't do the job he loves so much that he still follows you to the trailer and tries to load up so he can go again.”
The column will give everyday fans a look inside the world of the sport’s elite that only a champion can provide.
Besides her grueling tour schedule, Kelly has also announced the NFR barrel racing event on radio doing both play by play and color.
Kaminski’s hobbies include sightseeing, reading, traveling and acting. She hopes soon to add another skill to an already storied career. She hopes to appear on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.”
With the addition of Kelly Kaminski, Horseback Magazine boasts equine publishing’s top line-up of writers including world famous clinician and author Pat Parelli, NCHA Hall of Fame’s Leon Harrel, veteran instructor Cathy Strobel, trainer Wes White, tack expert Lew Pewterbaugh, former PRCA roper and clinician Craig Hamilton, cutting horse expert Gala Nettles, author Dr. Jessica Jahiel, attorney Jill Elsey, and rancher Jim Hubbard.
