Nominate Your Horse for the Equine Public Service Award
AQHA Press Release
April 20, 2004 - Don't miss this opportune way to honor your American Quarter Horse. Until May 1, the American Quarter Horse Association is accepting applications for its Equine Public Service Award. The award recognizes American Quarter Horses that are specifically used in the public service sector, including, but not limited to, police horses, parks and mounted rangers, beach patrol, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, border patrol and sheriff's posse.
The award is given annually to a deserving American Quarter Horse. The winning horse will be recognized in June 2004 during AQHA's Member Appreciation Days. A specially designed plaque and framed certificate will be awarded to the organization/owner of the recipient. The winner will be featured in AQHA's official member publication, America's Horse, and on its weekly television program, "America's Horse," airing on the Outdoor Life Network.
May 1 marks the deadline for nominations and supporting documentation. Visit http://www.aqha.com/forms/pdf/equinepubservicenom.pdf to download the form, and remember to include one photo of the horse, a bullet-point list of accomplishments, and a 500-word or less essay. One letter of recommendation is acceptable, but not required.
El Ninos Poco, a 1998 bay gelding, was the 2002 AQHA Equine Service Award recipient, and fulfills his duties with the Marshall County Minnesota Sheriffs Posse in Warren, Minnesota. Owned by Terry Nowack, "Storm" assists the department in search and rescue emergencies.
The Equine Public Service Award recipient must be a registered American Quarter Horse and the ownership status current. To be considered for the award, the American Quarter Horse is required to have had special training for its job, work in a professional capacity and currently in use by the nominating organization.
