Renowned Orthopedic Surgeon to Lead AAEP in 2004
Larry R. Bramlage, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACVS, has been installed as the 50th president of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP), the world's largest professional association of equine veterinarians. Bramlage took office Nov. 24 during the AAEP’s 49th Annual Convention in New Orleans, La.
An internationally recognized equine orthopedic surgeon, Bramlage is a partner at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Ky., and is an adjunct associate professor at The Ohio State University. He is a 1975 graduate of the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine, holds a Master of Science degree from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and is board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.
An active member of the AAEP, Bramlage served on the board of directors prior to his presidency and was the 2003 program chairman for the association's recent annual convention. He participates in the award-winning "On Call" program, providing veterinary expertise during television coverage of major horseracing events. He has chaired the AAEP's Educational Programs Committee and served on the Insurance, Alternative Therapies, Racing Injuries, Acutely Injured Horse, and Research committees.
The many honors that Bramlage has received during his career include the 1994 Jockey Club Gold Medal, which was awarded in recognition of his contributions to Thoroughbred racing. He has been named a distinguished alumnus of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and received the 1997 Tierlink Hochmoor Prize at the German Equitana for his work in the internal fixation of fractures.
Bramlage's involvement in the veterinary profession is extensive and includes serving as chairman of the Research Advisory Committee of the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Foundation. He also is a past member of the Board of Regents of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and is a past member of the board of directors of A-O Vet of A-O International - ASIF (Association for the Study of Internal Fixation).
Bramlage resides in Lexington, Ky., with his Marilyn. They have two children, Joey and Matt.
