Veterinary Convention to Mark AAEP's 50th Anniversary
September 9, 2004 -- Veterinarians from around the globe will convene December 4-8 in Denver, Colo., to celebrate the American Association of Equine Practitioners' (AAEP) 50th anniversary at the AAEP 50th Annual Convention.
As the world's largest continuing education meeting devoted to equine veterinary medicine, the convention will offer scientific sessions, professional development seminars and hands-on workshops for veterinarians, veterinary students and technicians. The comprehensive scientific program will include topics such as dentistry, sports medicine, surgery and lameness.
The Frank J. Milne State-of-the-Art Lecture, sponsored by the AAEP Foundation, Inc., will be delivered by Dr. Peter D. Rossdale of Newmarket, England, who will highlight the influence of intrauterine development on the immediate and long-term clinical consequences for the individual in his address, "The Maladjusted Foal: Influences of Intrauterine Growth Retardation and Birth Trauma."
Noted sports figure and motivational speaker Rick Pitino will deliver the convention's keynote speech. Pitino is head coach of the University of Louisville men's basketball team as well as a best-selling author and successful racehorse owner. The keynote speech is made possible through the sponsorship of Bayer.
The AAEP also will sponsor Horseman's Day in conjunction with the convention on Sunday, December 5. Horseman's Day, made possible through the support of the AAEP's Educational Partners, will feature five veterinary experts presenting health-care information designed for the horse owner and caregiver. Topics will include equine dentistry, preventative care strategies, care of the neonatal foal, parasite control and equine endocrinology. This year Horseman's Day will also offer a special trade show that will include many of the AAEP's Educational and Alliance partners.
Because EQUUS magazine is a sponsor of Horseman's Day, its readers and EquiSearch visitors can receive a $5 discount when they sign up to attend the event at www.myhorsematters.com. Enter the promotional code EDUP50 to receive $5 off.
In addition to the scientific program and other social activities, convention attendees will enjoy a sold-out trade show featuring more than 300 exhibitors offering equipment, supplies and services for the veterinarian.
