American Quarter Horse Association to Sponsor Clinics at World Championship Ranch Rodeo
AQHA Press Release
AQHA and Corporate Partner Bayer Animal Health are sponsoring two clinics by nationally recognized horseman Martin Black at this year’s Working Ranch Cowboys Association World Championship Ranch Rodeo, held November 11-14 in Amarillo, Texas. The championship rodeo will feature 20 ranches from across the United States and Canada that have won sanctioned rodeos to qualify.
Black, a fifth-generation Idaho horseman, will conduct a clinic November 12 to demonstrate Great Basin-style roping, using long, fancy loops for team branding and solo doctoring. November 13, Black will give a clinic on ranch-horse training. Both clinics will be from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Amarillo Civic Center.
Black travels around the world starting and training horses, and last year in the WCRR ranch horse competition finals, he had the distinction of competing against himself, after winning two out of three classes and qualifying those horses for the finals.
“AQHA has been an integral part of WRCA since its inception, and we are very excited about this sponsorship,” says WRCA Director Edna Mae Holden.
“These demonstrations will bring a different aspect to the rodeo. While the ranch rodeo competition is all about the fastest time, Martin and his contemporaries have tremendous finesse with a rope, as well as accuracy. We look forward to them bringing their skills to Amarillo to share a little more of their culture with our audience and participants.”
AQHA and Bayer will also present the Best Remuda Award during the WCRR. This award honors breeders of fine ranch horses.
