Hoof Stix Hoof Dressing

Horse Tack Review Staff

Putting on hoof dressing has always been a dreaded chore. After all, who wants to deal with that nasty can of goop and the brush that goes with it? Now, Rio Vista has solved the problem with Hoof Stix, the hoof dressing with the revolutionary new applicator. It saves you time and money. Just unscrew the cap, squeeze Hoof Stix onto the entire hoof, top and bottom, and smooth it on. Your hands never touch it and your clothes stay clean and fresh. From now on, that dreaded task will be a breeze and your horse's hooves will get the protection they need through wet and dry seasons.

For our review of Rio Vista Hoof Stix, we “farmed” out a few of our readers. Hoof Stix was sent to 3 readers for 30-day use. All three readers noticed a good improvement in their horse’s hooves. One reader noted that since they had not had any rain recently, her horse’s hooves were rather dry. After the 30 days of use they had improved, did not get thrushy or too soft, nor did they stay hard. Actually, after her Hoof Stix was used up, she went to PetSmart (State Line Tack) and bought another! Another tester noted that the thrush they had been fighting constantly had completely disappeared within a week… They couldn't believe it! Even when one horse was 2 weeks overdue for a trim there were hardly any cracks or chips in his hooves.

The one comment all of the testers noted was that the Hoof Stix is extremely easy to apply. Just squeeze the bottle to apply, and using the attached brush, smooth it out over the hoof. The texture and fragrance of Hoof Stix is the same as other hoof products, thick, greasy and not the best smelling, but at least with the Hoof Stix, you no longer had to worry about it getting on your hands or clothing.

Of the three testers, one did have a comment/suggestion – due to the thickness of the dressing, as the weather became colder, it was harder to squeeze it out of the bottle. If your tack room is not heated, or at least “room temperature” at all times, she would suggest storing it else ware.

Overall, all three testers were pleased with Rio Vista Hoof Stix. The ease of use and convenience of application allows no mess or hassle, saving you time and money!
