ReRun Takes "Moneighs" to EBay

ReRun

With winter at hand and funding for charitable organizations on the decline, ReRun, Inc. hopes to raise some much-needed funding to sustain the Thoroughbred adoption program by once again offering "Moneighs" at auction on eBay. Moneighs are colorful, abstract paintings created by famous racehorses. The horses paint with non-toxic paints on archival paper, and the works are embossed with the Moneigh trademark and include a lock of the horse's mane. Each Moneigh comes with a photograph of the horse either creating the art or posing with their finished piece.

Between Oct. 12 and Dec. 1, just in time for the Holidays, ReRun will offer works by such horses as Smarty Jones, Silver Charm, Point Given, Funny Cide, Tiznow, and many others. The Funny Cide Moneigh will auction along with a halter worn by the dual classic winner, whose latest victory came in the 2004 Jockey Club Gold Cup.

"When Moneighs have been offered at private auctions in Lexington, Kentucky and Saratoga Springs, New York, some brought upwards of $5,000 with an average of $1,000,” explained Shon Wylie, executive director of ReRun. “When the Smarty Jones Moneigh sold for $2,000, we received numerous requests from race fans across the country asking us to make these one-of-a-kind pieces available to everyone, not just a select few. That’s what we are attempting to do with the eBay auction."

The first grouping of Moneighs to hit eBay today (Oct. 12) will include Distorted Humor, sire of Funny Cide, and Belmont winner Commendable. In a tribute to Breeders' Cup horses past and present, look for Moneighs by Wild Again, winner of the first Breeders' Cup Classic in 1984, Sprint winner Kona Gold, and 2004 Breeders' Cup contender Funny Cide to auction the week prior to the Breeders' Cup.

Individuals looking for a unique gift idea may contact ReRun to commission a painting by their own horse or request a gift certificate for holiday giving which would allow the recipient to be present while their horse creates a work of art.
