New Equine Wear was founded in 1995 by Richard Balfry, as a result of his wife's mare receiving a serious tendon injury. There seemed to be nothing on the market that offered really good strike protection and was lightweight, waterproof and basically bombproof! Richard thought he could do better and the first incarnation of the N.E.W X-Country boot was launched on the market at BETA International in1996. It is very important to New Equine Wear that it is a British company manufacturing it's own products in the UK. This creates local employment, which benefits the local economy, the company's staff (and supplier's staff) enjoy fair wages and good working conditions. UK manufacturing is also greener than importing, as UK factories create little polution and avoid the need to ship products half way around the world.
