Purchase: My quarter horse mare I purchased at age two years old became a hot head at age eight. "Nece" got a mind of her own, and I became on the bottom of her pecking order. My friends recommended Dianne Mortensen's Equine Service, a horse behaviorist from Australia working in my area. Dianne introduced the Clinton Anderson halter for exercises that we began on the ground.
Likes: I would try to use my nylon halter and a regular rope halter to get the same responses in seven different exercises Dianne set up for my mare and myself. From just getting her to lower her head to half moon turns to soft pulls to her sides to backing up on minor movements of the rope the responses were significantly different with the Clinton Anderson halter.
Dislikes: The cost of my original halter, that burnt in a barn fire where I lost Nece two years ago was $24.99 now its sold with the rope for $59.00. With raising Nece's foal that survived the fire and a new horse I purchased a year later using one halter is hard, and the cost for a foal just isn't justifiable.
Quality: The halter is actually light weight and I felt softer than my training rope halter found at a local tack store, and I feel easier to fit my husband's larger horse and my smaller sized horse.
Summary: The differences in time response, quicker pick up of lessons with the Clinton Anderson halter vs others is so significant you can not dispute it. Even when I "rigged" the smaller halter size up for the foal (I know not recommended) still got better response from my foal vs his nylon halter.
