Purchase: I was looking for a fairly inexpensive bridle for just hacking around at home, and saw one at Schneider's Saddlery online. I think it was selling for around $25 with reins included. I was so excited to find this. It came a very dark havana, I could call it black.
Likes: After about a year of working with it, the bridle softened. Also that is with conditioning it for a long time. Pretty much all I liked about it was its price.
Dislikes: Wow, where do I start??!! When I first took it out of the box, it honestly looked like plastic. I didnt even think about returning it at the time, with I would have=(. I guess I thought it would soften up after being worked with for a while. So after about a year it does! I ordered a F/S which is horse size, and is on the tightest hole to fit my thoroughbred. And believe me he is big! So of course it would not fit the quarter horse (15'3) and large pony (14'2) (which usually fits into a full size bridle). I got the braided style and the first time I tried conditioning it the braiding snapped in 3 spots. Honest to god I was very careful with it. Also the color of the bridle wears off sooo quickly and it looks like it was painted on. I feel so embarrassed when I use this bridle.
Quality: CRAP! CRAP! CRAP! sorry, just telling the truth=). I really don't recommend this to anyone!! You will feel embarrassed when you are riding with this. Even with conditioning all the time if finally softens in about a year. Also this leather is hard to match with saddles, leathers, and girths. I used it for training so it does not really matter to me.
Summary: Please keep your eyes open for GOOD QUALITY bridles!! I learned the hard way. Check out consignment and used tack sales! Or even EBAY!!! It's nice to have a new bridle but it's even better not having to break one in. You can even see how the used bridle looks at a used tack sale at a store, instead of buying online.
