Category: English Chaps/Boots/Helmets
Purchase: I purchased these boots (after being totally fed up with my Mountain Horse ones) at Greenhawk in Whitby, ON. I paid $89.00 CND (sale price)for the boots
Likes: These boots are extremely warm and totally waterproof! Where I live, it is not uncommon to be riding in -20 C , and these boots are definitely up to that job. I wore them outside ( in -22 C) all day and never felt cold once! They also hold up great in snow and puddles, my feet are always dry. In addition, the support they offer your feet is incredible.I have "flat feet" and normally need extra support in my shoes/boots, but these were amazing, giving my feet AND ankles the perfect level of support for riding and walking.
Dislikes: There really is nothing that I dislike about these boots! Unfortunately, I could not get my colour preference (black) in my size, and had to go with brown instead. While trying the boots on, I noticed a VERY slight difference in the colour of the two boots, but was told it would go away once they had both been exposed to the same conditions during use. This is exactly what happened! After a couple of days at the barn, the colour adjusted just right!
Quality: As with most Ariat products, these boots appear to be very well constructed. You can tell that the material is of a high quality, and will undoubtedly last a long time, despite the harsh conditions it is exposed to. Unlike most winter boots, they are made of REAL leather! Now usually, a leather boot would not hold up very well against water, mud, chemicals, etc., right? Well these are a horse of a different colour, so to speak. The leather that has been used is amazingly waterproof,so it holds up wonderfully while still giving that classic look (and smell) of quality riding boots.
Summary: After a few days of wearing and riding in these (and a few years of being extremely happy with other Ariat boots ) I do not think I will purchase another brand of riding boot again! They are everything a winter boot should be: warm, waterproof, comfortable, and tough! The price may be a bit steep , but you get amazing value for your money, and with the quality of these boots, they will last you through many long, cold, winters. ( I might actually find it hard to put them away when spring finally comes!!) (These boots are also available in a paddock zipper, as well as a tall boot. They come in black and brown.)
