Purchase: I purchased the Cashel Softsaddle used. I was looking for a different type of bareback pad then the others which are so flat with too much padding. I thought that the Cashel Softsaddle would fit the bill. I purchased a large black Cashel with stirrups.
Likes: The Cashel has a good premise going. It is a thick padded with d-rings for the girth and stirrups. The stirrups were cheap plastic things with I would replace with a trail type stirrup instead. Personally, stirrups on bareback pads are dangerous thus I prefer to ride without them. Anyway, the Cashel has a 1/2" layer over the foam that is like scuba suit type material.
Upon getting it,I knew it wasn't the right pad for me. It is too thick! Too much padding under the seat and legs leaving the rider off the horse too much (almost as much as a saddle) I want closeness to the horse in a bareback pad. Cashel had a good idea but took it too far. I do see that they have a one layer foam pad which is probably closer to what it correct for trail riding.

Good premise but not quite.
Quality: Quality looks good. The layers seem to be melted together or glued together and would wonder on many hot trail rides how long they would stay glued. Seems like a good design.
Summary: Nice idea. Almost the right pad.
