Purchase: I really wanted to try riding bareback, and after some research, I bought this pad for around $50 on sale at The Cheshire Horse along with a bunch of other equine supplies.

Likes: This pad is all suede and very grippy. So far, the material has held up to lots of sweat from riding in shorts. The wither contour design keeps too much pressure off of my horse's wither and the pad is pretty comfy to sit on. the holes on the girth haven't stretched yet either.

Dislikes: The "tacky" non-slip material on the bottom of the pad and girth didn't work as well as it's cracked up to. I still found my pad slipping with a tight girth. Personally, I found the "squishy-ness" of the pad to be too squishy. I kind of felt like I was sitting on a thin pillow while trying to ride. Basically, I felt like I was "drowning" in the pad and the padding was not dense enough to seem like it could absorb any shock. The padding also made it very difficult for me to get into my 2-point just on the flat, never mind over jumps.

Quality: The quality is very nice. Good stitching, long-lasting materials, easy to clean. (Just take a rubber eraser to remove dirt and a stiff brush to bring up the ruff again.) I am pleased with how this is holding out.

Summary: To be perfectly honest, I didn't find what I expected in this pad. Sure it was comfy, but it doesn't encourage a relaxed leg position and the padding seemed to not be providing much protection while it got in the way anyway. I do stick well to it, but I think I'd rather sell this and buy one of those cheaper wool pads for the sake of my mare's back.
