Purchase: Purchased from Valleyvet.com for $24.95/pair. I got 2 pairs in 2 different colors (pink & purple), thinking at the time that I put them on all four of my pony's feet. Unfortunately, Mr. Pony didn't agree with that-- no hind bell boots for him, please. I got them for him after he cut one of his hind coronary bands in the stupid, poorly designed round pen at the dump I used to board at.
Likes: Well, let's see. The colors, which has been a motivating factor in many of my equine purchases. The fact that they stay put and don't spin. And, of course, the fact that they do their job of protecting my big mover from hurting himself.
Dislikes: A few things, but the biggest one is the fact that after only about TWO AND A HALF MONTHS of use, the thin outer part of the velcro closure started ripping for no apparent reason. MAYBE I could see something like thing this occurring 1 or 2 YEARS down the road (while being used on multiple horses a day), but 2.5 MONHTS of use on 1 horse? It's ludicrous. And to make it worse, Classic Equine doesn't even offer any kind of warranty on them. I bought these after reading rather poor reviews on Professional's Choice, but now I wish I had bought those instead. At least they offer a 6-month warranty on their horse boots-- and theirs are the same price.
Also, the ad copy states they are "water repellent and stain-resistant". They DO absorb water, and they DEFINITELY stain. The pink ones aren't even pink anymore, despite being washed.
Quality: Definitely provide protection from knocks, as they're thick neoprene. I've never had a problem with rubbing, and they stay in place. Stitching is not very good. The outer part of the double-Velcro closure is VERRRRY cheap and starting ripping before I'd even used them for 3 months.
Summary: Need better Velcro, better quality control on the stitching, Teflon coating if they really want to substantiate the "water-repellent and stain-resistant" claim.
In the meantime, I'm gettin' me some Professional's Choice Ballistic Overreach Boots.
