Likes: When I was researching Renegade boots I tried to find out two things: would the boots stay on at a canter or gallop, and would the boots stay on rear hooves? One of my horses has an extravagant gallop and will pull front boots off at full extension (easyboots with gaiters) and also cut herself if I put back shoes on her. I have never found back boots that would stay on either of my horses since they twist their hind legs when they push off into a canter and the boots twist off. It amazed me to discover Renegades would stay on both of my horses at a full, extended gallop. They also stay on in deep mud and they stay on back hooves! Other boots rely on gaiters or wraps to keep the boot on, while Renegades form over the heel bulb. This seems to make all the difference when it comes to boot retention. My easyboots are going to find a new home.

Dislikes: It is important to find the right size for your horse. If they don't fit they will come off. Size 00 is not just a smaller base than size 0, but the entire boot is much smaller. So if your horse's hoof is a little short for the size 0 you might want to try the cutback option instead of going down a size.

Quality: These are the easiest boots to take on and off that I've experienced. It really helps if your horse is revved up for a ride that your horse does not have to stand still and wait while you fuss with the boots. These are the only boots that do not rub my horses' pasterns or heel bulbs.

Summary: Using Renegades can be a real advantage going over rough, rocky trails since even a shod horse can get sole bruises on rough terrain. These are the best hoof boots I've found, and I've used easyboots, old macs and cavallos.
