Purchase: I purchased this saddle in used condition from a lady on Craigslist. I paid $900.00 for the saddle and the matching breast collar/headstall/reins, for two girths, and the Tucker saddle pad.

Likes: My saddle is at least 15 years old and has aged extremely well. I absolutely LOVE my saddle! It is VERY comfortable to ride and fits my horses' backs. I ride in the mountains of Idaho and regularly travel 40-50 miles in a weekend in rough country; I needed a saddle that I could ride A LOT of hours in! I bought this saddle specifically to fit one of my mares that kept having problems with my old saddle; it was placing pressure on her spine behind the seat. Because of the 3/4" wool lining on the underside of the Tucker, it has a spinal channel and fixed the problem. It also fits my other 2 mares and is now my main saddle. Another thing I like about my saddle is that there is slightly thicker padding in the hollow behind the withers; this helps prevent the saddle from sliding forward when going down steep hills; I was able to quit riding with a crouper on 2 of my mares too their everlasting joy! My Tucker is Western, but the back cinch is angled and has english style billets for 3-point rigging. I love this feature because it reduces the amount of bulk under my legs and moves the cinch away from the front legs so it doesn't rub my long striding gaited horses; if you can special order this style-- do so!

Dislikes: If your horse has really tall withers, make sure there is enough gullet clearance. Secondly, the covering on my seat is the vinyl-type. Going down steep hills I have a tendency to slide too far forward. I added bucking rolls to mine. If you buy a new one, see if they offer suede. Thirdly, when I used the Tucker pad, it had a tendency to create dry patches on either side of the spine; this was alleviated when I went to a Reinsman pad that was of the same thickness, but different materials (tacky tack versus wool). I weigh 265 pounds, so if you are a lighter rider there may not be a problem. Also, the Tucker pad might be getting old.

Quality: The leather on MY SADDLE is of excellent quality; it feels great, is flexible and conditions well. All fittings are still attached and in great shape. All stamp patterns are uniform. All holes punched evenly. If you have a horse under 15 hands/ 900 pounds and want to order a matching breast collar, make sure you can add enough extra holes; the way mine is designed I couldn't punch more than 2 equivalent holes!

Summary: I LOVE my saddle because it rides great and is comfortable, but the most important thing is it fits my horses!!
