Purchase: I acquired this saddle after months of looking from a private seller in Canada. I paid $950 shipped (to the US), and would have gladly paid more. I bought the saddle used, from the original owner.
Likes: I have the limited edition Dominus show jump/close contact model, and I absolutely love it. I often joke that I can only buy horses that this saddle will fit from now on, as I never want a different saddle. I have a MW, which I would say runs true, or perhaps a touch more on the M side. It works very well for my slightly high-withered TB with broad shoulders. I previously had a Dabbs that I really liked, but doesn't even come close to comparing to this saddle. As soon as I found this one, I put the Dabbs up for sale. I honestly love everything about this saddle. I love the twist, I love the leather quality, I love the nice wide seat, and I especially LOVE that it fits my freakishly long legs. I'm 5'11" and have a VERY difficult time finding any saddle that works for my legs without going custom. My horse absolutely loves this saddle, too, and moves very well in it. These saddle are wool flocked for easy adjustments, which is a big plus.
Dislikes: The only thing I don't like, is that the Dominus brand is no longer made, and they're very difficult to come by. No one wants to part with one if they have it, and I certainly understand why. Even if it didn't fit a current horse, I would never part with this saddle. Also, watch out for "new" Dominus saddle. They're cheaply made, which is quite noticeable. The "new" ones were made after the Dominus brand name was sold to Weatherbeeta, and they're made of cheaper leather in Argentina. Check the sweat flap for the reoccurring 'Dominus' logo to be stamped on it- if it's not there, don't bother with it- they're complete junk. That said, I also had a second Dominus for a very short period of time- it was more of a reddish color and had a very small tag on the left hand side where the seat meets the panels that was marked "Made in Argentina". This one was not as poor as the "new" ones, but was of lesser quality than my Dominus. The leather was tougher, and the color rubbed off. If you can find the newmarket (except the brand new ones!)/brown color (this color after conditioning/use), you're getting a deal. If you find the more reddish colored ones, they're still nice, but I wouldn't pay as much for one- maybe $400-500.
Quality: The quality of these saddle is on par with your higher-end saddle. Clearly Menet realized the quality he was making for the price when he changed from making this to going to the Amerigo line. This is a high end saddle, for a middle-of-the-road saddle quality price. I paid $950 for mine, and I consider it to be a steal. I would have easily paid twice for this one.
Summary: I absolutely LOVE this saddle, and would recommend it to anyone. These saddle fit a nice variety of horses, and would be very nice for someone looking for a saddle suitable for several mounts. If you're in the market, and can find someone willing to part with one- don't hesitate to purchase.
