Purchase: I bought this saddle on the internet. I paid 884$ for it. 48$ for shipping a saddle tree back and forth from Pennsylvania to Oregon, and 253$ for shipping the saddle three times across the country. My horse is a draft cross with a short, broad, curvy, low withered back. I ride long hours in rough terrain. The saddle I had fit him fairly well, but he was getting white spots on his back, and taking shorter strides. I needed a better fit.
Likes: You get to pick a basic model, and then modify it as you wish, which is fun. Basically, you get to design your own saddle. I think you get exactly what you pay for, a medium quality saddle for a medium price. The tooling is very nice. It is comfortable, a balanced ride, and pretty if you don't look too closely at the details. It is a pleasure to heft such a light saddle after 25 years of a 50 pounder. I went for the leather upgrade, which I would definitely recommend.
Dislikes: Even after doing their saddle fit program, and mailing the saddle itself back, it doesn't fit as well as I would like. If you are undecided about your seat size, get a larger one. I always ride a 16, but this 16 is a hair small. I am 5'8" and the stirrup leathers and fenders are too short. The blevins buckle is right down at the stirrup, and that is with the rivets at the top of the fender almost showing. My husband will not be able to ride this saddle. I think the rigging is set too far forward, closer to a full, rather than a7/8s.
Quality: The leather is decent. I think it is sturdy and will hold up well. It is clumsily built. it looks nice on the top side, but when you really look you can see how they manage to make a "custom" saddle at that price.
Summary: It is a pretty, comfortable saddle that doesn't fit my horse like I had hoped. I can't tell that he changed the saddle at all for 150$ worth of shipping. The testimonials on the website are misleading, as they date from before the business was sold from Melissa to Bill and Beverly Graff. I wish I had gotten to deal with the helpful Melissa described in the testimonials. I am trying to be fair here, but I wish I had never heard of Wyoming saddlery.
