Category: Close Contact Saddles

Purchase: I ordered it for $800 with leathers+irons included through a local tack shop after trying many used/new saddles for months to no avail.

Likes: It fits a wide variety of horses, from sale ponies I hacked to a big 17hh warmblood, and about everything in between (slab sided 16h TB..15.3 QH..16.2hh round TB..) Also, it is extremely comfortable, and the leather is decent quality. It has remained in fairly good shape for the three years I've owned it. I have jumped 4' in it, school 3'3-3'9 regularly in it, gone stirrupless in it, and stay secure. The seat iss in good shape after 3 years (Disclaimer: I always ride in breeches)

Dislikes: The flap isn't very forward cut. I bought it a few years ago as a young, growing teen as a 16" with a long flap. The seat size and length are perfect for me, but my knee hangs off the front. For someone with a short hip to knee, this won't be an issue. Also, stirrup rubs show up really easily. I have butter soft leathers, and in two rides marks were already shown. It darkens up with oil and looks fine; however, it is still there. The billets also took a beating and look scratched up, and one of them stretched considerably.

Quality: Fairly good; the leather is pretty soft but grippy, and the tree hasn't warped or anything. The panels haven't lost their padding, and it doesn't restrict the horse's movement; I ride a lot of hunters that jump as roundly and move as well in this saddle as a $4k butet.

Summary: Overall, it is a good, comfortable saddle for about $1,000. The leather and quality definitely isn't that of a higher end saddle, but I've seen much worse. It fit in around the A Circuit eq and hunters (no snide looks!) and the only reason I am now selling mine is because my leg is too long for it. I am sad to see it go!
