Purchase: Wells Lamont Sport Utility Gloves SUG) model 848 were purchased at Modell's Sporting Goods for $14.99 -- I purchased the gloves for general riding and eventing.
Likes: These are by far the best all-season riding gloves for schooling, foxhunting, and cross-country riding, jumpers, and eventing. The premium leather and mesh back as well as the reinforced palm and fingertip areas of the gloves provide superb 'grip' in all riding and weather conditions. They work well with rubber as well as leather reins and provide excellent 'feel' through the fingers and palm for a all-purpose glove of this type. I have owned these for over 1yr and they are tough as nails and bulletproof in every respect. The seams and stitching have held up extremely well and the leather is of superior quality. The vented back is comfortable even in high humidity and hot weather conditions. The gloves are pre-curved over the back of the hand to increase comfort and allow your hands to maintain the right contact with the reins without muscle fatigue. If you event or do alot of trail riding or cross-country jumping, I would highly recommend these gloves for their durability, comfort, 'grip', all-around superior construction and price. Other gloves I have purchased in 'equestrian' stores or on websites usually wear-out within a few months with hard use...these SUG 848 gloves are made to last a lifetime under heavy daily use and are great for any equestrian sport -- do a web search for "Wells Lamont SUG 848" and you can find them on-line for about $12.99 plus shipping at some hardware store websites. Also, some sporting goods stores may carry these, but call first as the Modell's Sporting Goods store where I originally purchased these do not carry them anymore.
Dislikes: The velcro strap across the back works well but is a little bit ostentatious for showing -- it can probably be removed for that purpose, but I use them for schooling and cross-country only.
Quality: Quality of the materials especially the leather, stitching, and synthetic reinforcements on the palm and fingertips is excellent.
Summary: Great gloves -- the only gloves you will need to buy if you ride alot...made to last a lifetime !! and are competitively priced compared to other equestrian-type schooling gloves of the same quality and construction.
Usefulness Rating: 2.6 out of 5.
