Purchase: I bought these rubber petal boots from a fellow rider for my new horse. She's a little bit clumsy and has a tendancy to step on her own hooves! I paid $20 Cdn for the set which included 26 petals and the 2 plastic straps that hold them all together.

Likes: Although these boots have some minor damage (small tears at the stress points where the straps hold them together), they've held up to the repeated abuse of my horses hooves! They are also completely adjustable -- all you have to do is add or remove a petal to each boot to custom fit it to your horse. A lot of people dislike petal boots because the plastic straps can break scattering petals about the field, but I personally like the design which stops these boots from turning up and not protecting what they're supposed to. Instead of flipping back up the horses legs, they flair out (like a flower does when it opens) and close again. With regular tack checks, you would be able to see whether a strap was weak and could replace it before it fails. These boots also clean up easily (soap and water) and because they're made entirely of rubber, they don't attract leaves, burrs or twigs.

Dislikes: Nothing yet, though I have heard of some horses not liking the sound petal boots make. Because they're rubber and the petals are overlapped somewhat, you can hear them 'flapping' as your horse trots or canters.

Quality: Good quality. As these are rubber, they don't hold water like cloth boots and don't pick up leaves or burrs.

Summary: I bought these boots used, and although they had some wear and tear, they've held up good so far. A lot of tack stores don't carry petal boots anymore, but they are worth the money if you manage to find them!
