Purchase: I actually traded for this saddle about 10 years ago. It was owned by a friend who had foxhunted in it for many years, and he was going to donate it with no fittings to the riding school where we both worked. I convinced him to trade for my newer (and horrible) Regent saddle with all the fittings. He agreed, and I got a wonderful saddle!

Likes: This saddle is designed with very flat, thin flaps for extra-close contact with the horse's sides. It has a very narrow twist, so you stay in the center of the saddle much better than some others I've ridden in. The saddle has lasted YEARS of hard riding, on many different horses, and seems to fit nearly everything. I originally used it on my off-the-track TB from three years old to now 16yrs, and it still fits with his changing shape. The leather has not worn out on the flaps, and only minor scuffing on heavily used areas. The leather quality is fantastic, and (while I got it already broken in, just musty, dusty, and moldy) the leather supples to butter-soft, especially in the flaps.

Dislikes: The standard-length flap is just a touch long for those of us under 5'6". It is a little bit hard in the seat, but it was designed for the hunters (whether show or foxhunt), so you don't sit in it all that much. Also, the seat sizes seem to run a touch small, so a 16.5 seat seems more like a 16.

Quality: Great leather, supremely high quality. How else could that saddle have lasted 10 years with me and however many with the person I got it from?

Summary: These saddles are harder to find, probably because their owners like them so much and never trade them in. If you can get your hands on one of them, don't let it go!
