Purchase: I purchased four Easyboot Bares from Hemphills Horse Supplies in Waterville, Maine last spring. The folks at Hemphills were very accommodating considering they didn't have my horse's size in stock. They took down the information and placed the order and within three days I received a phone call saying the boots were at the store and I could pick them up. The boots were normally priced at $65. each however, they gave me a promotional "one time" price of $45. per boot so I had a wonderful discount.
Likes: The boots are really very nice. It took some fiddling around to figure out exactly how to fit each boot to my mares very individual feet. The adjustments took a bit of time between trying them on, walking my mare up and down the aisle, taking them off and then resizing for a good fit. Now picture my oh-so impatient mare pawing and digging away waiting for me to saddle up and get on with our ride. She's an arabian-hackney horse cross so for anyone familiar with either breed you'll understand her incessant pawing. Anyway, I eventually got the perfect fit and now for the moment of truth... climb onto the back of my little road rocket and wait for the rodeo ride of my life while she adjusts to "those things around her ankles". Hey, it didn't happen. She didn't even give those boots a second glance so off we go, down a nice gravely dirt road. Oh yeah, just what I hoped for... not one bad step by her. She ate up the miles and was confident with each and every step. Previously in her bare feet she was very cautious on rough terrain.
Dislikes: I like these boots, there is nothing I would change. They don't rub my mare. They are broken in enough that putting them on each foot is simple. But, the most important part is that she is happy in them.
Quality: Construction is good. They are very stiff. That part took getting used to but after about two uses they became much more flexible. I wouldn't want them made from flimsy material since they are there to protect her feet.
Summary: I'm very happy with the boots. My mare is making the transition to barefoot year-round. No more metal shoes for her so these boots help protect her on our long conditioning trail rides. I plan to have her wear them in our upcoming endurance ride in three weeks. My gelding will be getting his Easyboot Bares this week. I'm confident he'll be comfortable in them as well.
