Purchase: Years ago, this website had a contest on certain days that was a horse trivia contest. If you logged in to their chat room at the right time on Wednesday PM, you could compete (if you typed fast enough) in a horse trivia contest for little prizes, like lead ropes, etc. I won this halter with the correct answer of "quarter horse." (I can't remember the question!) At the time, they sold it for $7 but now its down to $5

Likes: FREE! I love free. For the cost of free, this is a very decent halter. The nylon web is strong and it isn't bad looking. I've had it some years now and the brass color hasn't changed to silver.

Dislikes: I hate to look a gift horse in the mouth, but if you insist, I'll say that it hardly gets used because it is just what they describe it economy halter, meaning cheap. The nylon is very thin, though flexible. It is not very adjustable, so it only fits horses 14-16 hands. I don't trust the hardware not to break if my horse is tied up and pulls back.

Quality: single-ply nylon halter, gold-colored hardware, thin crown buckle, reinforced only at ends where it attaches to hardware, not stitched anywhere else.

Summary: Free is great, so I can't complain about the price. This is not a halter for everyday use--I would never buy one and would only use it in an emergency or if all the halters are taken. I can really only see one use for this kind of halter---if you are a horse dealer and buy and sell a lot of horses to first-time owners, who don't always know that they need to bring a halter, so they can get a free halter with the purchase of their horse. I don't even trust them enough to buy for camp horses. Halters aren't expensive; buy a good one if you catch your horse more than once a month.
