Purchase: My gelding got EPM two years ago. I had already put him on a month of Marquis paste and he had relapsed two weeks later. One of my friends, who is a veterinarian at the U of Mn, suggested that I buy Navigator because it is riskier but stronger. I love my horse more than anything so I paid the $1800 to get a month's supply.

Likes: The company has gone to pains to make sure that you monitor your horse very well during this period.

Dislikes: It didn't work. $1800, and it didn't work. I was heartbroken. He was on it for a month, and I was so good about giving it every day. It tasted terrible and it was yellow; it stained my clothes yellow. Each tube was the size of a tube of bute, and giving a horse that much medicine was very difficult. My horse didn't know why I gave him so much nasty medicine, and he had all the reactions---the fever that it can give, the laminitis...I was heartbroken that I tried so hard and spent so much on medicine for my beloved horse, buying him the best drugs and most effective drugs, and they didn't work.

Quality: Individually wrapped tubes of yellow medicine the size of tubes of bute, given orally once daily. Comes in an enormous box that allows you to record the date and temperature and observations on your horse at each dosing.

Summary: I wouldn't use this medicine again. Honestly, I don't know if I'd treat for EPM again. Eventually, he got over the EPM, but that was after 1 month of Marquis followed by the month of Navigator, another month of marquis, and 2 1/2 months of double-dosing marquis. And he was left unrideable with permanent nerve damage that causes laminitis from time to time and he is now blind. I don't know how it works on other horses, but I broke my bank and my heart at the same time.
