Model: Topeka Flex2 Tree (View all Topeka Flex2 Trail Saddle reviews)

Category: Trail Saddles

Purchase: As I get older I found the need for a lighter saddle than my old roper. I bought this Circle Y Topeka with Flex2 wide tree from a private party, it was like brand new. I paid $750 for it plus bridle, pad, CE mohair cinch and breast collar. Couldn't pass it up!

Likes: This is the most comfortable saddle to ride on the trails. The Softee leather is almost squeak less and easy to take care of. The seat is so easy to ride no matter whether you are going up hill or down or on the flat.

Dislikes: I fought girth sores from the day I started riding this saddle. I tried numerous cinches..neoprene, mohair, fleece..Within 2 hours I would have rubbed him raw and would have another week or more off riding while healing. It sat real well and didn't move when mounting (and I'm not a petite thing any more), but I was told I needed to cinch tighter. So I did, SAME results. We tried it on our other gelding and it worked fine, no rubbing whatsoever. Difference, my gelding is built more like the old bulldog QH with the big hip and a little dip/sway before the wide shoulder/whither. Our other gelding is built like the "modern" QH and a straighter back from hip to whither. The flex tree "flexed" or worked too much on my horse with the little dip.

Quality: Very nice quality, very comfortable and really light. I wish it would have worked out for me. I would never had paid the retail price of $1400+ for a new one, but 2nd had was a great buy!

Summary: BEWARE OF YOUR HORSES BACK SHAPE! If you have a nice flat backed (hip to whither) horse, this saddle is for you. If they have a little dip or sway from hip to whither, I don't think I would chance it.
