Manufacturer: Ariat (View all products by Ariat)

Model: Stable Half Chaps (View all Stable Half Chaps reviews)

Category: English Chaps/Boots/Helmets

Purchase: I bought these from Dover Saddlery online for $64.90 approximately two moths ago.

Likes: Ariat offers so many size options! I love it! Half chaps are always too short on me but I got the tall size and they look very sleek and clean-cut with paddock boots. These are very functional half-chaps, no rubbing at all. They clearly do their job. There is no snap or anything where the zipper ends at the bottom of the chap but the zipper doesn't come undone and unzip halfway up my leg.

Dislikes: Well ... here goes. After hearing my friends rave about Ariat products and finally accepting the demise of my Riding Sport half chaps, I decided to give these chaps a try. Ariat definitely WILL NOT be getting my business again. When I first received them, I had to check to make sure that I had purchased leather half chaps and not synthetic ones. The leather felt like plastic, not at all supple and didn't take oil or even saddle soap. The suede on the inside of the leg looks VERY cheap. And the worst part of all is that they barely fit over my paddock boots. There is an elastic panel in the back, which I like because it isn't very visible, but it took quite a bit of work to get the chaps to close completely. About the fit, the different parts of the chap didn't seem proportional. I got the slim calf, which fits my calf perfectly. The lower part of the chap is almost too small to go around my boots and the top part, the part near my knee, had about two inches of room to spare. It was all very odd.

Quality: Good quality zipper, tight stitching.

Summary: These half chaps were advertised as "perfect for beginner riders" (which I am not, but I don't have a big budget) and I now know that they're really not made to last. I am very disappointed and recommend a pair of Riding Sport leather half chaps, which are actually cheaper and lasted me almost five years.
