Purchase: I bought the English padded version from the Dr. Cook website for over $200. I bought it for my horse with TMJ who has difficulty carrying a bit and tends to be very tense.
Likes: The bridle was easy to fit with the help of a user's manual included in the box. I tried it out on my warmblood, and while it really didn't offer as much control with him, he really did relax A LOT. There was no more fighting. He is a very strong willed, forward type of guy so I'm not too surprised that he wasn't perfect in it. I then decided to give it a go on my 4 year old OTTB. He's very sensitive to the bit and will chomp excessively on it, curling his head behind the bit. With the bitless, he is now stretching down and forward, completely at ease. He's much more sensitive than the warmblood, so the steering and stopping is very easy with him. I haven't ridden him in a bit since I've had the bitless. He just goes so wonderfully in it! And without the bit to fuss over and lunge into like a track TB is taught to, he now is even cantering along like a gentleman...nose almost to the ground, ears flopping. I was very impressed. However, my TB has a horse sized everything, but a tiny muzzle. Everything about the bridle fit him except the noseband. I contacted the company to ask if I could trade nosebands, and they told me to go ahead and keep the one I have now, and they would send me a cob sized one free of charge! Awesome customer service!
Dislikes: I think the only thing I didn't like was how it didn't work amazingly well for my warmblood. However, I still use it for him, as he is really very relaxed in it. I suppose subconsciously I was trying to find a miracle cure to all his issues...but Rome wasn't built in a day. *Sigh*.
Quality: Very nice leather, very stiff at first but softens up really quickly. It seems like a very sound, strong piece of tack.
Summary: I definitely recommend this bridle to anybody. Especially if you have a more sensitive horse. The price may be on the high side, but what with the 30 day money back no questions asked guarantee and the amazing customer service, there really isn't any risk in at least trying one. I'm now a huge fan, I think I might want to get another one just to have around!
