Purchase: I bought this saddle almost new for $575, from someone who was using it while waiting for a custom ordered saddle to come in. My new horse needs a regular or medium-wide tree. My previous horse was wide, and the two horses before that were narrow! Definitely time for the changeable gullet system.

Likes: I love this saddle, it is my 3rd Wintec, because I keep needing different sizes and types of saddles. I seem to get a different sized horse every time! My first Wintec, which I still have, is about 25 years old (from before the changeable gullet system) and has been in storage three times, for up to 8 years at a time. Leather saddles get green mold then dry up when stored for that long, but the Wintec comes out of a box in the garage ready to go straight in to the show ring, except for the leather billets. I love how light the saddle is, easy to grab with one hand set easily on a horse. I like this more open style dressage saddle for some aspects of riding dressage, even though I also use a deep seat saddle for other things. If the Wintec Isabelle deep seat fit me, then I would have one of those also! The equisuede material is wonderful and gives you a grippy seat so you don't have to grab with your legs to keep from sliding around in your saddle.

Dislikes: I wish people realized that the high-end Wintec non-leather saddles are actually better for many applications, not just cheaper. My other saddles have included Stubbens, Passiers, and the Klimke, which are all great saddles, but not always better than the high end Wintecs, just different. The Wintecs definitely hold up better than any of my leather saddles.

Quality: The quality, persistent good looks, and ruggedness of the 3 Wintecs that I own has been great. The low-maintenance aspect of these saddles is wonderful. Anyone who treats their Wintec nearly as good as they would a leather saddle will be impressed at how they hold up. Because the saddles are less expensive to start with, some Wintecs are treated much more harshly than leather saddles, my 25 year old one looks beautiful.

Summary: I have ridden a Prix St. Georges level school master dressage horse, doing 2-time flying lead changes just fine in my Wintec dressage saddle. I sold my Stubben Siegfried leather jumping saddle 8 years ago with my previous horse, so I now need a new cross country saddle. The first thing I am going to do is have a good look at the new Wintec Pro Jump saddle and if that style works for me, I will buy my 4th Wintec!
