Purchase: I bought this helmet new for $90 at a State Line Tack store in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. It should be noted that I was in a rush when I bought it (big mistake).

Likes: The fine details of this helmet are very high-quality. The black velvet is lovely, the Pittards English leather gives it an especially classic look, and the gold silk lining is a luxurious final touch. The relatively low price was a plus as well.

Dislikes: Where do I begin? Troxel isn't lying when they say this is the "best-looking classic English helmet", but the "best-fitting"? Give me a break! This is THE worst-fitting helmet I have ever had the misfortune of wearing at a show. It held my poor head in a vice grip and Flip-Fold system didn't help. I had a competent store person fit me and 7 1/8 is definitely my size, but this helmet gave me a borderline migraine. It didn't look good on me either; it made my head look ridiculously huge and left me with an angry red mark stamped on my forehead. Another con is the non-existent ventilation. Troxel claims Phantom Flow system will contribute to a "cool, comfortable ride". A joke, and not a very funny one. My head was sweating bullets all day.

Quality: As I already mentioned, this is a lovely-looking helmet... when it's not on someone's head. The quality of the materials is top-notch, but I only wore it once, so I'm not sure how they'd hold up over time. It's also very lightweight at only

Summary: This helmet has been sitting in its box on my tack room shelf for two years now. I don't need the added stress of an uncomfortable, ill-fitting helmet when I'm at an important show. If you must buy it, I highly recommend buying a size or two larger than normal. And definitely don't order it from a catalogue; go to a reputable tack shop, get fitted by someone who knows what they're doing, try it on, and take a hard look in the mirror before purchasing.
