Close Contact Saddles

Manufacturer: Collegiate
Model: Equilibrium Apprentice
Category: Close Contact Saddles

Purchase: I bought this saddle used from a friend for around $900, because my other saddle didn't fit my new horse.

Likes: I absolutely LOVE this saddle to death. It is the comfiest saddle I have ever sat in, and it honestly feels like sitting on a cloud. The colour is gorgeous (havana.. dark brown), the quality is AMAZING. Not one piece of stitching has come apart, and I have had this saddle, riding every day, sometimes 2 or even 3 horses a day in it. There is no discolouration anywhere, even where the stirrup leathers are. The billets have held up amazingly, and are so soft, yet so strong and haven't stretched at all. I also ride in jeans 95% of the time (the only time I ride in breeches is at shows) and my jeans have no made ANY marks on the saddle. a boarder's horse even bit my saddle, and there was only a small mark, which came off with regular glycerine saddle soap. I've used this saddle on all sorts of horses (medium tree) and it has fit everything from fat stocky ponies, to thin narrow thoroughbreds, to large warmbloods! This saddle cleans up so nicely and looks excellent in the show ring. I LOVE this saddle.

Dislikes: I find that the seat size runs a bit small. I have a 16.5 seat, and feel like I need a 17, maybe even a 17.5 seat. Also, the flaps tend to be a little longer, and don't sit quite as forward as some other saddles do, but this is not a huge issue at all!!! other then those two things, it's perfect. there's really not a lot to dislike about it!!

Quality: This saddle is so beautifully made, and the quality is astounding. I've owned this saddle for almost 4 years, and before I bought it, a friend owned it for about 3 years. Not one single piece of stitching has come apart. nothing has rubbed, there is NO discolouration anywhere... the quality of leather is amazing. this saddle is so comfortable, I get compliments from everyone who rides in it. The seat literally lets you sink into it, and moulds to your body perfectly. the leather has so much grip, riding without stirrups is no problem, and same with jumping the bigger jumps. I feel so secure in it.

Summary: I would recommend this saddle to anyone. this saddle has been put through many years of hard use.. I'm not the type of person who cleans my tack after each ride either. It's been left without a cleaning for months, and still cleans up so nicely for the show ring. This is such a high quality saddle you will love!!!!
