Harry Hall
Full Seat Breech
English Show Apparel

Manufacturer: Harry Hall
Model: Full Seat Breech
Category: English Show Apparel

Purchase: I got 2 pairs of Harry Hall Ivory colored breeches on a closeout sale. I was surprised at how low the list price was given the quality of what arrived in the mail. The tag says "Royal" on it, but I don't think the listing specified a model.

Likes: I love how stretchy these 95% cotton, 55 lycra breeches are. The wide waist band and heavy-duty quality closure at the top of the zipper are very nice. I like high-waist, and this model is. The little zip pocket is awesome for tucking in my keys so I don't loose track of them. The cotton fabric itself is heavy duty, but still cool because of being cotton. No amount of "wicking" in a synthetic fabric makes it as cool as cotton. The shape of these is more straight up and down, so if you are more of an apple than a pear shape these will be perfect for you in a variety of sizes because of the stretch.

Dislikes: I usually wear a 34, but I got these in 38 because I was happy for a looser fit. But the higher waist on this larger size gapes in the back for me. I thought about sending them back, but the closeout sale did not have any other sizes, and for schooling these work ok if I wear an elastic belt. Also, I keep one pair clean to loan to my blockier-shaped friends who come out to ride an older trail horse with me sometimes. If you are like me, 10" bigger in the hips than my waist, you need to stick with the smaller of your size range so that the waist is not to big. The stretchyness will make these work for you anyway, I think. Or just go get the "shapely" model.

Quality: These are the best breeches that I have ever owned quality wise, and do have plenty of other brands. The stitching and workmanship on these is the best of any breeches I got. Again, I was not expecting such nice quality on breeches where even the list price was pretty low for a full-seat model. These just feel quality, even when you pick them up in your hands Everything in the Ivory color that I got is beautifully matched in color, right down to the zipper teeth. The full seat clarino matches the cotton fabric. Even the velcro at the bottoms are the same, perfectly matching ivory color. I almost could cry because this color is now somewhat "in" for dressage showing based on some riders in the last Olympics wearing non-white. But the loose waist on me and fact that mine now have stains because of lots of schooling and trail rides rule them out. I do not have any show breeches as nice as these. I am not willing to spend over $100 on show breeches that one snot-blast from my horse can stain and turn in to $35 schooling breeches.

Summary: My respect for how great these breeches are has gone up and up over the months I have worn them. I am looking at getting more Harry Hall breeches and wondering if the other models will be as nice as these, especially given they are cheaper than the Devon Aire and On Course and Carousel cotton ones that I have and are not nearly as good.
