Purchase: I ordered this fly sheet from Country Supply when I needed an inexpensive replacement sheet in a hurry. It cost about $38 dollars (US). There was also the option to get the same sheet with an attached neck cover for about $10 dollars more.
Likes: I was very impressed with the quality of this sheet for the price. My 12 year old Thoroughbred gelding takes a 78" and this fit him just right. There is nice, soft nylon lining in the entire chest/shoulder area and over the tail, plus good fleece padding at the neck. He got absolutely no rubs from wearing it. Very breathable and dries out quickly- he's been out in the rain with it on a couple times and no problems at all. Clean ups nicely too. Most importantly- it kept those rotten biting flies from driving him crazy!!
Dislikes: Bellyband could have stayed a little snugger. He's a big guy but even with surcingles fully taken up, it was a bit saggy on him. I could not get the tail cord to stay knotted- tossed it after the first day and replaced it with an old leg elastic I had. Sheet slides around a little but not enough to make much difference; stayed in place after some heavy rolling!
Quality: Lots of room for adjustment in the chest buckles- tough, strong keepers plus an interior hook & loop closure. Strong and stretchy elastic bellyband surcingles. T-locks include rubber stoppers that have been missing on higher priced sheets I've purchased. Nice, deep shoulder gussets. Decent amount of drop for a big guy, plenty of material to wrap under his belly. Good stitching along edges and around fasteners and gussets- nothing that rubbed him on the interior. Good quality hardware at this price too.
Summary: I ordered the Saxon because it was in stock in his size and I could get it quickly. For the price, this is a great sheet to have on hand. I don't know how well it will hold up in the long run, but I will order a back-up to have on hand. For anyone on a budget, this is a terrific fly sheet with some nice upper-end features and also comfortable for the horse. My guy loves his and he's not usually pleased to have a sheet or blanket on him. Thought this would be a good way to let others know about this product.
