Purchase: I recently began foxhunting, and since I only had a synthetic saddle, needed to find a good quality leather saddle to use. My trainer recommended the Jeffries Flyover, and let me try hers on my horse. It retails for $1800, but I found one used, in a local tack store for $875!!!
Likes: The Flyover is unique because it is a monoflap design. There is almost nothing between you and the horse, and it puts you in the perfect position for cross country riding. When I rode it with my trainer, she didn't have to tell me to get my legs back in position-- it drops them in the exact spot they need to be. The seat is deep without being hard to rise out of, and the knee rolls are large enough to keep you absolutely secure-- even when going up or downhill while jumping or when making sharp turns at a gallop.
Dislikes: So far, nothing. Well, maybe the price if I hadn't found a used one for such a bargain price!
Quality: The leather is beautiful, and it is an incredibly well crafted saddle. And, it is LIGHT! Weighs next to nothing and is soft and supple. The titanium tree is strong and light too, totally frees up the horses' shoulder for full movement. Uses a dressage size girth, so the buckles don't interfere with your leg. I bought the Webers stirrup leathers so I wouldn't have any buckles up by my thigh too, because it is such a close contact saddle.
Summary: Incredible saddle! It is kind of fugly off when you look at it, but once you sit in it, it looks traditional. And---- don't just go by how it feels on the stuffed horse at the tack shop-- it will NOT be the same on your horse. It's one of those saddles that is an absolute must try on YOUR horse to feel the difference it will make in your riding.
