Purchase: I paid around twenty dollars for this girth on Ebay. I wanted a 2nd girth to school in that was fleece and easy to clean. This is a synthetic (embossed vinyl sponge leather) girth that has a nylon center sewn down the middle for added strength. It kind of looks like leather. There is elastic on one side only, but both ends have roller buckles.
Likes: I liked that it looks more traditional than my all nylon fleece practice girth and that it's shaped to prevent chaffing. It's comfortable on the horses. It actually looks nice too. The roller buckles make tightening easier and they seem sturdy enough. I ordered a 50inch and it was true to size.
Dislikes: I really wish it had elastic on both sides. Also I do think where the buckles are attached to the girth could have used more secure stitching. I certainly would not use this girth for cross country or any heavy duty riding. I don't have confidence in it. The stitching that has been done seems secure and tight, there just isn't enough of it! Oh, and there isn't a center D ring so when I wanted to use my neck stretcher I had to tie some twine around the middle!
Quality: The girth overall is ok. It's a medium duty girth. I don't believe for a minute that it will hold up to heavy riding. It's made as good as any 20 dollar girth can be. I can't find any obvious defects or flaws in it. The fleece is good and so too are the roller buckles. A center D ring would be a nice addition.
Summary: For what I paid, I am for the most part satisfied. I won't buy another girth like this one. I'll stick to the all nylon fleece girths to train in and my leather girth with a fleece cover to show in. This is just a back up girth and that is what it will remain. A workable, usable back up for light to medium schooling and training.
