Korsteel
Jointed Irons
English Saddle Fittings/Pads
Manufacturer: Korsteel
Model: Jointed Irons
Category: English Saddle Fittings/Pads
Purchase: I opted to get these irons with my saddle package instead of the regular Fillis irons. My knees & ankles get sore from time to time during a ride, and I've been told that these work wonders. They also help keep your heel low which is essential in horseback riding.
The irons retail for $79.95 Cdn at Apple Saddlery in Ottawa, Ontario.
Likes: The quality. Korsteel is an excellent name to begin with, but these irons are really nice.
Apple says "Linked jointed stirrup irons, rubber covering over linkages, complete with pads".
The irons have enough give to keep my heels low, though they're not forced down. They also flex a bit as I ride, acting like shock absorbers for my ankles. They've pretty much ended the pain I used to feel in my knees and ankles during and after a ride.
Dislikes: It takes a bit of practice to mount with these irons if you're not used to them. The first time, my foot slid out of them as I stepped off the ground and they flexed a little. I almost always use a mounting block now, which is easier on my horses back anyway.
I'm also used to riding 2-point in regular irons and these take a little getting used to as you have to re-distribute your weight a little.
It's not a 'dislike' really, just some things to consider if you're interested in getting these irons.
Quality: Excellent construction and quality. The rubber that covers the linkages is supple enough and I can't imagine it cracking and exposing the linkages anytime soon. The silver finish is also nice and cleans up easily with a mild soap and water.
I'd definately get these irons again should this pair wear out.
Summary: I'd definately get these irons again should this pair wear out.
While they may seem a bit expensive, they go on sale from time to time for nearly half the price!
