Purchase: I purchased a pair of Bosana Boots for my Rocky Mountain gelding that is pretty flat footed and sensitive, even though he is shod. I looked at several different kinds of boots but chose the Bosana boots because they are designed to be worn over horse shoes, instead of horse shoes. I purchased them for $110/pair from a site called Runningbear.com, they specialize in items for endurance riding. They even exchanged the original pair I purchased because they were too small.
Likes: My horse is like a totally different horse with these on. I live in a pretty rocky area compared to wear I purchased him from. And he moves very carefully on gravel or rocky terrain and will not travel at more than a walk. With these boots he is not hesitant or short strided at all. And he'll move right along at whatever speed I ask. The boots are secure and have stayed on through mud, creeks and fields so far. I like the fact that they only cover his hoof, so there's no worry about rubbing. And they are easy enough to put on and off.
Dislikes: I haven't really found anything I really don't like. Maybe they could make something on the back to help pull them over the edge of the horses shoes a little easier.
Quality: They seem to be very nicely made. The boot is heavy duty rubber, I don't think it will wear out any time soon. The straps and buckles are heavy duty also. The bottom of the boot provides a nice amount of traction and is great on pavement.
Summary: I love these boots! I feel like my research paid off, thanks to many reviews from this site too. These are the perfect boots for horses that are usually shod, but could use extra protection, or great to use when you'll be traveling rough terrain. They are worth it, I feel like I have a new horse.
