Purchase: I was traveling back through on my way back to Colorado. I purchased this saddle from The Farmhouse, just outside Tryon,NC. I paid $1,750.00 for this saddle without fittings.
Likes: It was the most comfortable saddle I have ever sat in! I have had major back surgery and thought this would be great for me. Couldn't wait to ride in it. I thought it would be a great idea to have the complete interchangeable gullet system, also.
Dislikes: When I arrived home in Colorado, I had to put my mare down before winter. After this, I did not ride until the next summer. I was so shocked when I finally put it on a horse!!!!
It was hard as bricks to sit on!!!! The C-Air panels had expanded due to the high altitude in which I live. I did contact the Bates Co. and with quite a while waiting for a response, they admitted that this does happen. They did offer to refill the panels with wool flocking. I appreciate the offer but already sold it to someone back east and lost about $600.00. I just feel like the consumers should be aware of this problem with air filled panels.
Quality: Construction and quality of these saddles are great and are very attractive.
Summary: Beware of air filled panels in saddles if you live in high altitude-they expand and can be dangerous, also!
