Helmet Cover with Brim Pocket
English Chaps/Boots/Helmets
Manufacturer: Equiline Apparel Design Inc.
Model: Helmet Cover with Brim Pocket
Category: English Chaps/Boots/Helmets
Purchase: I had just bought a brand new helmet and wanted a cover to protect it from dust and whatever else floats around the barn!
I bought this from Greenhawk in Barrie, Ontario, Canada for approximately $10.00 Cdn on sale and not including taxes.
Likes: This cover did a great job of protecting my helmet from dust and dirt, and kept it looking great for the show ring. I just had to remove the cover before I went into the ring - not worrying about giving it a last minute brush off.
Dislikes: The description says this cover comes in black, navy blue or hunter green. I opted for hunter green since that's the main colour I used on my horse. When I went to the store to get the cover, it was actually closer to teal - not hunter green as described.. and it didn't match any of my gear. I needed a cover anyway so bought it while I was there, but it was disappointing.
Getting it onto my size 7 1/2 helmet was also a chore and I don't feel that it would fit a size larger than mine since it was stretched tight.
The care tag on the helmet cover is a little confusing as well - it says "Machine wash in luke warm water. Hang to dry". The next line says "Dry clean only". Hmm...
Quality: Made of nylon-lycra. This cover is designed to fit any english helmet that has a brim. Available in black, hunter green and navy. This cover is not waterproof and will not protect your helmet in the rain.
Summary: It really is a decent helmet cover, especially for the price, but double check the colour before you buy it. I took mine home knowing it wasn't exactly what I wanted but I needed a cover so got it anyway. It could've been a fluke though - I haven't looked at these covers in the store since I bought one but maybe mine came from an off lot? I'm not sure. You can never go wrong with basic black though!
I've since found a company that makes helmet covers with a thin rubber lining so that they're waterproof. I love this idea and have been buying them instead (though for a bit more money) - these are especially handy in rainy Canadian springs or falls!
As for the Equiline cover, it's a good buy if you're not too picky about colour.. the quality is great, but their attention to other details seems to have been slightly overlooked.
