Purchase: I bought these field boots for $239.00 at a local tack shop. I need a pair of boots for an upcoming show and didn't have the time to buy from a catalog. These boots along with a less expensive brand were the only two field boots that they sold, so I was limited in choice! I got a 7.5 wide, but wished I would have gotten the full size calf, as the wide for me was too big. You should try boots on when you haven't been standing for 8 hours. I didn't take that into consideration, but that is my fault and the boots fit well enough.

Likes: I chose the Ariat field boots because they had a zipper. A zipper is a must for me. It makes getting your boots on and off so much easier. The zippers are nice because now I can retire my boot pulls which never seemed to make it to the show with me anyway! The boots really do look nice. They have a formed leg, so they are tapered at the ankle and give you a much more contoured fit and look. There is an elastic gusset at the top which lets the top of the boot fit snug but not too tight. I like the clean fitted look. They were instantly comfortable for my feet and heels, they didn't rub. It took them only a few rides to drop and stop rubbing the back of my knees!

Dislikes: The zipper is nice, but to keep the back of the boot closed on top, there is a snap. Sometimes the snap is difficult to close. I am also not a fan of the spur rests. Rather than one rest on the back of the heel there are two rubber protrusions on either side of the heel, and while they work, they are aesthetically not pleasing to the eye. It's small complaint though.

Quality: For the money, I don't believe you could expect a better constructed boot. The leather isn't calf skin, it's thick, but nice quality. All the seams are double stitched and there are no loose strings. The zipper is a thick plastic and so far has caused me no trouble and is in working order. (6 months) The 4LR foot bed is comfortable and very stable. The sole of the boot is a rubber duratread, that is thick but flexible; tough too as the heels haven't been worn down because I tend to drag my feet after a long show day. These boots were comfortable enough that I wear them around the barn doing chores, bathing horses and whatnot and they clean up great and still look ready for the show ring. The leather has softened nicely and has remained scratch free even though they take a beating.

Summary: I am glad I bought these boots. In the same situation I'd buy them again. I think for the price, the style, the quality can't be matched. I think Ariat makes some very good products and because of that I felt confident in my purchase. I love the little extras that they included in a less expensive boot. They are well designed and constructed and I think they will hold up to the heavy use that they get. All in all I am happy and have a comfortable pair of boots and could ditch the boot pulls!
