Purchase: I bought these Ariat paddock boots for $99.00 through Dover Saddlery online. I was getting back into horses and needed new boots. I had an old pair of Ariat paddock boots but they got chewed on by mice while in storage and had to be thrown out! So I knew I wanted Ariat boots, but I was kind of shocked at how the prices went up and now there were so many new styles. I picked these basically because of the price to be honest. I got them in chocolate and size 7 1/2.
Likes: I like Ariat products, so I was hoping that they made these less expensive paddock boots to their usual high standards. I feel that they did accomplish that. They are comfortable, and didn't cause any blisters when i was breaking them in. I like that they feel stable in the stirrups. My foot feels secure and I don't loose my stirrups. The duratread sole has just enough traction to be secure, but not so much that I can't adjust the position of my foot. The leather is soft and looks nice. The spur rest is nice touch.
Dislikes: I wish there was a bit more sole padding in the boot. They aren't comfortable to stand in all day. I also think a tab sewn on to the the top back of the heal to help pull them on would be a great and not costly addition. My other pair had them and I didn't think I'd miss them, but I do! It's a little thing, but convenient.
Quality: These boots are made very well. They have a duratread sole and Ariat's 4LR foot bed. They go through mud and other "stuff" and wash up nicely. There are no scuffs which is amazing because my horse aims to step on my feet at least once a day! The laces are really strong and haven't frayed. All in all a good serviceable paddock boot.
Summary: I like these boots. I'd probably buy them again in the same situation. That being said, I am going to invest in the better Ariat paddock boots, as I spend a lot of time on my feet at the barn and I need a more comfortable boot. I think if you just want a riding paddock boot these are great. They match the Ariat half chaps and are functional and affordable.
